July 4, Day 17, Dubois to Riverton, WY

Just like the rest of the country we were very hot today.  Highest temperature that I saw was 103.  Heat reflecting from the road felt a lot hotter.  We all rode the full distance 80 mi.  Also as in so many other places fireworks here have been cancelled.  The grass along a stream that was overflowing last year during the ride is now brown and brittle.
Yesterdays motel had no air conditioning, but, as soon as the sun went down everything cooled off and we slept much better than expected.
Almost all day today we were within sight of the Wind River.  Very picturesque.  The views are now often very wide majestic views of lower mountains, desert rock and scrub.  Very hard to capture on camera.  Attached are an assortment of pictures from the last three days.  Nice to have a good internet connection.
Tomorrow Thur July 5 is 120 miles slight uphill first 60 miles slight downhill second 60.  Temperature at 6:00 AM, ( we start riding at 6:00) is forecast for 67deg. on its way to 90+.  Winds up to 20mph mostly sideways with possible thunderstoems and hail after 2:00 PM.  We expect/hope to finish between 5 and 5:30.  The condition will determine tomorrows ride more than the terrain.
If you see pictures of mee with white arms, that's not sunscreen, I am wearing coolmax pull on sleeves.  They cool by improving evaporation of sweat and provide sunscreen protection.  We are still above 5,000 ft. elevation and sunburn is a constant concern.
Really appreciate the comments and emails even if I don't answer them all.
Bedtime is 8:30pm wake up is 4:45 AM.
Still irritated that there was no marker for crossing the continental divide yesterday.  Crossing the divide is one of the highlights of the trip.  There was a monument there until they took it down for road construction.
Here is a sampling of pictures from the last 3 days
SAG stop view july 2, hard to beat

"Moose Crossing", not your everyday traffic sign

Typical sag stop in nowhere

Hard to do justice to majestic views.
Tour leader Mike puts together a DVD of about 2,000 of the best photos.  I will be purchasing a copy

Sign says welcome to Wyoming, July 2

View from Teton Pass Summit.  There was road construction on the way down from this pass.  Riders have been clocked at over 50mph.  We were limited to 30mph and stopped often.  Traffic was backed up behind trucks going down in first gear and the smell from overheated brakes was very bad.  One rider fell and broke his pelvis.  He will be out of the hospital on Sunday with pins in his pelvis.
